National Assembly Deputy Speaker Jovan Janjic Meets with Italian Ambassador to Serbia
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia a Jovan Janjic met today with Italian Ambassador to Serbia Luca Gori
The officials agreed that Serbia and Italy have strong economic, political and diplomatic ties. In support of this, the Ambassador mentioned the three business forums held so far, as well as the upcoming celebration of the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, to which Italy plans to give special political importance.
The ambassador was interested in the Deputy Speaker's view of the current atmosphere in the Serbian Parliament, emphasising his personal experience that the National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic is making an effort to improve the dialogue between the ruling majority and the opposition, with which Deputy Speaker Janjic agreed. He said that the ODIHR did observe certain irregularities during the election process, but they have been analysed and the work to continue improving the election process is very much underway.
One topic of discussion, among other things, was the role of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Serbia, as well as the tendency to maintain the Christian identity in the region, which, the Ambassador pointed out, Italy also strives for. Janjic emphasised that the Serbian Orthodox Church has always stood for peace and is doing everything to preserve and build it. He used the opportunity to invite all the citizens of Italy to visit and familiarise themselves with the Serbian holy places in Kosovo-Metohija.
