National Assembly Delegation to OSCE PA in Study Visit to Norway

The Head of the National Assembly delegation to OSCE PA Stefana Miladinovic and Branimir Jovanovic, member of the OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism, paid a study visit to Oslo, Norway, on 14 – 15 January 2020, organized by the OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism.

In the course of the study visit the delegation members met with representatives of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Norway, Mayor of Oslo Raymond Johansen, Minister of Justice Joran Kallmyr, as well as representatives of the Norwegian Labour Party Youth and the members of the families of the victims of the terrorist attack of 22 July 2011.

In the course of the study visit the delegation of the OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism visited the island of Utoya where the terrorist attack of 22 July 2011 took place and honoured the victims of the attack.

The OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism works on promoting coordinated actions among the 56 OSCE member parliaments covering North America, Europe and Central Asia to develop innovative guidelines and facilitate the exchange of lessons learned and practices concerning countering terrorism and suppressing violent extremism.

In the meetings, the delegation of the OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism discussed developing partnership with the OSCE and UN executive structures to secure the support of national parliaments for the realization of the member countries’ full anti-terrorist potentials. In that context, they emphasized the need to focus on topics such as border security, abuse of the internet for terrorist purposes, radicalization and de-radicalization and connections with other types of crime.
