National Assembly Delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly – Press Statement

Today we all witnessed a very dangerous precedent that took place in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

To be unequivocally clear - today, with the decision to give the so-called "Kosovo Assembly" the status of associate member, the living conditions for every Serb in Kosovo-Metohija have further worsened. They already live in conditions that are completely unacceptable in today's Europe – as if in a ghetto.

Today, Albin Kurti was awarded for all the unilateral moves he has made in the last few years, about which he was warned by the EU, NATO and other international factors.

The well-planned, continuous, systematic and widespread ethnically motivated attacks against the Serbian civilian population, which resulted in 15% of the Serb population leaving the territory of Kosovo-Metohija in the last year, and 212,000 Serb and other non-Albanian internally displaced persons never to return, were rewarded.

With this decision of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Provisional Institutions in Pristina were additionally encouraged not to implement the agreements reached, including the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, which is an obligation established more than 11 years ago.

This decision violates UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and all the agreements reached so far in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

Please note that our delegation in the NATO PA was not consulted during the process of making this decision

The voting results show that there was no consensus within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

The delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is especially grateful to every delegation that showed understanding for our arguments, that resisted pressure and appealed that such a decision not be adopted. In addition to the representatives of countries that did not recognise unilaterally declared independence of so-called "Kosovo" - Spain, Romania, Slovakia and Greece, this decision was not supported even by MPs from the countries that recognised the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo - France and Italy. Our delegation is especial thankful to the delegation of Hungary, which expressly voted against this decision.

The representatives of our delegation were not allowed to speak before the vote on granting the status of associate member to the so-called "Kosovo Assembly", nor after the verification of this decision.
