National Assembly Delegation at PACE Spring Session

The National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is taking part in the PACE Spring Session in Strasbourg, 8 – 12 April.

The delegation headed by Dr Aleksandra Tomic comprises Biljana Pantic Pilja, Elvira Kovacs, Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Aleksandar Seselj and Branka Stamenkovic.

Elvira Kovacs, member of the National Assembly delegation and Chairperson of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, presented her report on “The role and responsibilities of political leaders in combating hate speech and intolerance”.

In the course of the session, PACE is expected to appoint a new (ninth) co-rapporteur for the monitoring of Serbia and the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy is to discuss the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.

The report "Role and mission of the Parliamentary Assembly: main challenges for the future" by Tiny Kox attracted considerable attention. Its aim is to overcome the crisis in the PACE caused by the suspension of the Russian delegation’s mandates. A considerable number of amendments were submitted to the text among them 10 amendments submitted by a group of MPs belonging to the group of European Conservatives. One of the submitters of the amendments contradicting the attempts to overcome the existing crisis was delegation member Branka Stamenkovic, contrary to Serbia’s foreign policy and the values and efforts of the organization itself.

Head of the standing delegation Dr Aleksandra Tomic said that all the delegation members except for Branka Stamenkovic support Serbia’s foreign policy and the return of the Russian delegation to PACE to resume all the rights and duties guaranteed by the Statute of the Council of Europe to all the Council of Europe member states.
