Natasa Vuckovic Elected Vice-Chairperson of Newly-Formed PACE Committee on Election of Judges

MP and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Natasa Vuckovic was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on the Election of Judges to the European Court of Human Rights, today in Strasburg.

“In 2015, the PACE will be electing judges from more than 10 Council of Europe member countries. The Committee is preparing the election by assessing the candidacy procedure at the national level, interviewing all the candidates for this important judiciary office nominated by the member states and, finally, recommends one candidate from each country to the Assembly” – said Natasa Vuckovic.

This is the first year that the PACE set up a special Committee on Election of Judges so as to stress the importance of the procedure for the election of judges and the court in Strasbourg. Until now the election of judges was done by the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. The members of the Committee are nominated by the political groups from their own ranks based on their experience in the protection of human rights.
