NARS Speaker Receives World Harmony Run Torch

Today, at the Hall of the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, was presented with the World Harmony Run torch – symbol of harmony and friendship. The Speaker had a message for the participants of the race to pass on.



Today, at the Hall of the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, was presented with the World Harmony Run torch – symbol of harmony and friendship.

The Speaker had a message for the participants of the race to pass on. “2010, declared by the United Nations and UNESCO as the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures is an important opportunity to demonstrate the significance of dialogue and understanding among different cultures. The World Harmony Run also enables the participants to experience other cultures so as to develop an understanding through art, culture and sport. This initiative contributes to create a more peaceful and prosperous world through the application of various cultural experiences, and build the foundations of peace and harmony”, said the Speaker.

The participants of the World Harmony Run, the biggest relay race in the world, also presented the NARS Speaker with a torch bearer’s medal. The event was attended by Franjo Mihalic, prominent sportsman.

The World Harmony Run was founded in 1987. It is held every two years and runs through over 140 countries on 6 continents, covering over 70 000 km. The race started on 1 January in Guatemala, while the European team started on 26 February from Dublin, and goes through all European countries. The international team entered Serbia on 5 July, and the race will end in Moscow on 27 September.
