NARS Speaker Receives RTS Director

Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Radio Television (RTS) agreed that the Assembly’s work must be public, and the cost of live TV broadcast must be reimbursed.

Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Radio Television (RTS) agreed that the Assembly’s work must be public, and the cost of live TV broadcast must be reimbursed.

Protecting the public interest to follow the Assembly’s work, as well as the Public Service’s independent position, both sides noted that it was necessary to continue constructive cooperation respecting the fact that by broadcasting almost 3000 hours between 1 January 2006 and 31 July 2010 RTS had incurred 3.3 million EUR of costs that must be reimbursed.

The NARS representatives stress the need to request that the Government of the Republic of Serbia urgently secure funds to settle the liabilities incurred so far. Since the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has no funds allocated for this purpose for the period up to now, the officials agreed that the issue should be resolved by a budget rebalance, and that the 2011 budget should allocate funds for the further live broadcasts of the NARS sessions. It was agreed that the Assembly and RTS will adjust the activity plan and assumed liabilities.
