The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received today Tonio Borg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta.

The NARS Speaker thanked Borg on his country’s endorsement of Serbia’s progress towards full-fledged EU membership, particularly since Malta was the second country to ratify the SAA with Serbia. Borg stressed that even though it is the smallest EU member state, Malta will continue to support Serbia.

Borg, who is also in charge of the affairs of the Maltese Parliament’s Lower House, deemed the meeting extremely important for opening a new chapter in the two countries’ relations. The officials agreed that parliamentary cooperation should be furthered not only through the cooperation of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Committees, but all other working bodies as well.

Borg informed the Speaker of the protocol on the implementation of readmission signed with Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic, adding that about 4000 Serbs live in Malta. In this regard, the NARS Speaker thanked the Maltese Foreign Minister for supporting the EU’s decision on visa abolition thus making it easier for Serbian citizens living in Malta to communicate with their relatives and friends.
