NARS Speaker Receives European Parliament Vice-President

NARS Speaker Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received European Parliament Vice-President László Tőkés.

NARS Speaker Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received European Parliament Vice-President László Tőkés.

The Speaker commended the creation of the informal Friendship Group with Serbia at the European Parliament, currently comprising 31 members, renowned deputies, former ministers and politicians.

“We are satisfied with the democratisation processes, particularly as regards the status of Vojvodina and the Law on National Councils of National Minorities”, stressed Tőkés. “Serbia has demonstrated a great deal of progress in the field of ethnic minority rights, although there still are some problems regarding the constitution of the Bosniak national council, but these problems will soon be resolved as well”, said the NARS Speaker.

The members of the European Parliament and National Assembly have been meeting since 1994, but only in 2004 have they been formalised by the establishment of Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue Meetings. Both sides noted that the fourth Inter-Parliamentary EP-Serbia Meeting, held on 4 and 5 October 2010 at the NARS, gave a special contribution to the cooperation between the European Parliament and NARS.

The NARS Speaker expects that rapporteur Jelko Kacin’s EU report on Serbia in December this year will be positive.
