Members of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary Visit Hungarian Embassy

The Head of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary Zarko Micin and PFG members Dragomir Karic, Mirjana Andric, Aleksandar Cotric and Marjana Maras met with the Ambassador of Hungary to Serbia Dr Attila Pinter on 26 November at the Embassy to discuss the relations between Serbia and Hungary. The Embassy’s diplomatic representatives responsible for the economy, defence and culture also took part in the meeting.

The representatives of the National Assembly said that the cooperation between the two countries is at a very high level and has especially progressed in the past three years when several agreements were signed in the spheres of energy, transport, internal affairs, environmental protection, culture and science.

The officials stressed that the relations are at their best in the past several decades and that parliamentary diplomacy, namely the frequent meetings between the representatives of the two parliaments, give a strong impulse to cooperation.

Ambassador Pinter stressed that Hungary supports Serbia’s efforts to become a full member of the European Union. The Serbian MPs opined that the trend of excellent political relations should be accompanied by economic cooperation, for which there are very favourable conditions.

The officials also hope that the building of the modern Belgrade-Budapest railway would soon begin, which will engage both the Serbian and Hungarian economies and shorten the travel times of both passengers and cargo between the two capitals.

The representatives of the National Assembly and the Hungarian Embassy also agreed that the Serbian and Hungarian minority in the two countries contribute to the understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
