Members of PFG with Iran Meet with Iranian Parliamentary Delegation
The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iran Meho Omerovic and the PFG members met with the delegation of the Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia headed by Parvaneh Salahshouri.
The Head of the PFG with Iran Meho Omerovic said how pleased he was by the fact that the Iranian parliamentary delegation is visiting the National Assembly in the year that marks 80 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Iran, stressing that the two countries’ cooperation has been greatly improved in the last few years. Omerovic is sure the relationship would continue to develop and improve especially in the field of tourism seeing how Serbia and Iran had abolished visas for their respective citizens and direct flights had been established between Belgrade and Tehran and Belgrade and Shiraz. He also thanked Iran for its principled stance on the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
Speaking of the close relationship between the two countries, the Head of the PFG with Serbia Parvaneh Salahshouri said that the establishment of direct banking ties would be very important for the development of trade and economic cooperation.
Meho Omerovic briefed the guests on the electoral system in Serbia, how national minority MPs were elected and the compulsory 30% quota for women MPs. The officials exchanged experiences on the number and participation of women MPs in the two countries’ parliaments, as well as the importance of respecting human rights.
The meeting was attended by PFG members Dr Muamer Bacevac, Josip Broz, MA Milovan Drecun, Jasmina Karanac, Dragomir Karic, Zoran Krasic, Ivan Manojlovic, Olivera Ognjanovic and Marijan Risticevic. They expressed their deep belief that the Iranian delegation’s visit would contribute to the further development of relations at the political, economic and cultural level also mentioning the possible development of cooperation in the field of healthcare.
