Members of PFG with France Meet with French Senator Jean-Yves Leconte
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with France met today, 6 November, at the National Assembly House, with French Senator Jean-Yves Leconte, Deputy Chairman of the French Senate’s France-Western Balkans Interparliamentary Group.
Opening the meeting, Head of the PFG with France Natasa Vuckovic said that the parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and France is excellent, which is evidenced in the frequent exchanges of parliamentary visits. Vuckovic also gave a very high assessment of the bilateral relations between the two countries, hoping for an intensification of economic cooperation. “We believe that the big historic influence French culture has had on the development of Serbian culture and education allows ample room for cultural, scientific and educational cooperation.”
Senator Leconte commended the way the Republic of Serbia had approached the migrant crisis, based on humanitarian responses and needs of the refugees, in line with international standards.
The officials then discussed the migrant crisis and its impact on the European Union and Western Balkan countries. Speaking of Serbia’s European integration, they agreed that it is in the Serbian citizens’ interest to continue the process. They also exchanged views on the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and the results achieved so far.
In addition to the Head of the PFG with France Natasa Vuckovic, the meeting was also attended by PFG members Milorad Stosic and Milena Bicanin.
