Members of PFG with China Talk to Chinese Ambassador to Serbia
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the People’s Republic of China had their first meeting, attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Li Manchang.
The officials stressed that the Republic of Serbia and the People’s Republic of China enjoy excellent cooperation in general reflected by their strategic partnership, investment in infrastructure, economy, and many other areas. They agreed that the recently ratified Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on Mutual Abolition of Visas for Holders of Ordinary Passports would undoubtedly spur on future cooperation and that the friendly relations have been cemented by the exchange of visits of the two countries’ high dignitaries.
Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, Head of the PFG with China, expressed his and the PFG members’ pleasure at the Ambassador’s presence at the meeting stressing that Serbia as a country is privileged to have such a big and powerful friend as the People’s Republic of China. The PFG Head is sure that the numbers of tourists would swell after the introduction of the visa-free regime, adding that the many contracts and investments allow for ample cooperation potential in the spheres of education and student exchange.
Speaking with the members of the PFG with China, the Ambassador reaffirmed that the People’s Republic of China supports Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will continue to invest efforts into advancing the two countries’ friendly relations, founded on strong grounds. H.E. Li Manchang said that a great many Chinese investors, in addition to the existing ones, is interested in investing into Serbia. To that end he stressed that the Smederevo steel works, sold to a Chinese company in April 2016, has achieved full profitability and the profit gained would be invested into the steelworks to make it a competitive company.
Finally, the members of the PFG with China elected Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic Deputy Head of the PFG with China.
