Members of National Assembly’s Delegation to PAM meet with PAM President

The members of the National Assembly’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean headed by Momo Colakovic met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Pedro Roque.

The officials agreed that the interparliamentary cooperation among the PAM member states is very successful, evidenced in various aspects such as Serbia’s EU accession, security in the region and seeking a solution to the migrant crisis.

The Head of the National Assembly’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Momo Colakovic thanked the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean for the visit and took the opportunity to list Serbia’s strategic goals, viz. EU accession, security in the region and the economic and social development of the state.

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Pedro Roque said that Serbia is one of the pivotal countries in the organization as evidenced by the fact that the members of the National Assembly’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean have been elected to prominent posts in all three of the organization’s committees. He also commended Serbia’s humane treatment of the migrants, adding that it could serve as an example to many an EU member state. Roque also said that not only Serbia but all of the countries of South-East Europe deserve to be EU member states.

“That would be a natural step after the accession of some of the ex-YU states into the EU, and this enlargement would be a smart move for the European Union, especially in the wake of Brexit”, opined Roque.

The officials also discussed activities and reciprocal support within the organization, and how to best intensify economic, trade and cultural cooperation among countries on three continents, that is in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. They especially focused on security, human rights and fighting terrorism.

Besides the Head of the National Assembly’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Momo Colakovic the meeting was also attended by Aleksandra Miletic who was elected President of the PAM Standing Committee at the 11th PAM Plenary Session, and members Tijana Davidovac, Olivera Ognjanovic, Marija Janjusevic and Marina Ristic.
