Meetings with Czech and Azerbaijani Delegations at NATO PA Session in Ljubljana

In the meeting with the Chairman of the Security Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and Head of the Czech Republic delegation to the NATO PA, Pavel Zacek, and Czech Senator Tomas Jiri, the members of the National Assembly delegation spoke about the bilateral relations based on the traditional friendship of the two peoples.

The Head of the delegation, Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, welcomed the participation of Czech members in KFOR and recalled that KFOR forces are the only legal and legitimate armed forces in Kosovo-Metohija in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244. He spoke about the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and said that it is unacceptable for certain states to get involved in the illegal arming of the so-called "Kosovo Security Forces". In addition, he welcomed the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence, expressing the hope that it will be further improved in the coming period. He invited the members of the delegation of both houses of the Parliament to visit the "Czech House" in Belgrade. Delegation member Natasa Jovanovic recalled that 105 UN member states have not recognised the unilaterally declared independence of so-called "Kosovo" and expressed concern about the position of the Serbian people in the southern Serbian province.

The Czech parliamentarians emphasised the traditionally friendly ties between the two peoples and expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be directly informed about the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija. They expressed their readiness to further improve parliamentary cooperation in the coming period, especially that of the standing delegations to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as their readiness to exchange visits in the coming period.

The Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Ramid Namazov, expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations, grounded in the long-standing friendship, mutual trust and adherence to the basic principles of international relations. He recalled that cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan has been raised to the level of strategic partnership and expressed hope that the Strategic Partnership Council will soon have a session. He emphasised that the excellent bilateral relations are based, above all, on exceptional cooperation and close ties between the presidents of the two countries. He welcomed the excellent interparliamentary relations, recalling that the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia recently paid an official visit to Baku. He assessed that cooperation in the field of defence is good, recalling that representatives of Azerbaijan took part in the "Power of Unity" military parade, as well as the "Partner 2025" International Fair of Armaments and Military Equipment.

The Head of the delegation, Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, thanked Azerbaijan for its principled and consistent support for respecting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and emphasised that our country at the same time strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He thanked Azerbaijan for the development and strengthening of the energy partnership, expressing interest in further developing cooperation in this area. Delegation member Natasa Jovanovic spoke about the unacceptable conditions in which Serbs live in Kosmet and the importance of the upcoming local elections, which are being held today on the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija.

The 71st annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held from 10 to 13 October 2025 in Ljubljana, is attended by the Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the NATO PA, Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, and delegation members Natasa Jovanovic and Ivan Karic.
