MPs Receive Indonesian House of Representatives Delegation

In the National Assembly today, the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Southeast Asia (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) Miroslav Petrasinovic and PFG members Stasa Stojanovic, Danijela Vujicic and Tomislav Jankovic received a delegation of the Indonesia/Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, headed by PFG Head Chairul Anwar.

Miroslav Petrasinovic expressed satisfaction with Serbia’s good bilateral relations, dating back 70 years, with the fourth most populous country in the world, recalling that Yugoslavia was among the first countries to support Indonesia’s struggle for independence, which it gained on 17 August 1945. He added that he believed the two countries’ successful interparliamentary cooperation will continue, underlining the importance of mutual support in international parliamentary organisations and forums.

Petrasinovic thanked Indonesia for its principled stance and non-recognition of the self-proclaimed independence of the so-called state of Kosovo, as well as its support of Serbia in this matter in international organisations. He informed the guests about the difficult position of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, stressing that the number of ethnically motivated attacks on Serbs has been increasing year by year and adding that Serbia advocates peace and dialogue, but has no response from the other side to reach an agreement and establish peace.

Miroslav Petrasinovic thanked Indonesia for supporting Serbia in joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia at the 43rd summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) last year.

The head of the Indonesian parliamentary delegation, Chairul Anwar, agreed that Serbia and Indonesia have traditionally good and friendly relations, opining that parliamentary diplomacy, at the bilateral and multilateral level, plays an important strategic role in improving cooperation in many areas.

The officials agreed that there is significant room for further development of economic relations, which will contribute to the further growth of trade, adding that there are opportunities for reciprocal investment. In addition to the traditionally well-developed cooperation in the military industry, the members of the two delegations agreed there are opportunities for the development of cooperation in the fields of modern technologies, as well as in agriculture, tourism, culture and sports.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Serbia, Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha, also attended the meeting.
