MP Dejan Radenkovic Takes Part in Conference under Italy’s Presidency of EU
As part of the Parliamentary Dimension of Italy’s presidency of the European Union, on 29 and 30 September 2014, Rome hosted an Interparliamentary Conference in line with article 13 of the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union, attended by the chairpersons and members of finance and budget committees of the parliaments of EU member states, as well as the chairpersons and members of finance and budget committees of the parliaments of EU candidates, as observers.
MP Dejan Radenkovic, member of the Committeeon Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, took part in the Conference.
The four topical sessions focused on the future of the Economic and Monetary Union, re-launching of investments and reduction of inequality, economic and fiscal governance instruments, establishment of a banking union, funding of a realistic economy, coordination of EU tax policy and digital economy.
The Conference was opened by Laura Boldrini, Speaker of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, who presented the priorities of Italy’s presidency among which economic growth and reduction of unemployment take pride of place. Her address was followed by a discussion on the initiatives that should be undertaken to lessen the burden of the EU states’ public debt, encourage investment in the public and private sector, set up a single market of energy, transport and IT, as well as better coordinate the financial and banking system. The participants of the Conference agreed that they should work together to overcome the crisis in the Euro-zone, encourage micro-crediting and set up a common regulation framework in the field.
Italian Minister of Economy and Finance Pier Carlo Padoan, Commissioner–General for Policy Planning Jean Pisani-Ferry, European Parliament ECON Chairman Roberto Gualtieri, Governor of the Bank of Italy Ignacio Visco, European Investment Bank Vice President Dario Scannapieco, OECD Deputy Secretary-General Rintaro Tamaki and Director of the European Centre for International Political Economy Hosuk Lee-Makiyama also spoke at the Conference.
The National Assembly’s delegation took active part in the discussions with the participants of the Conference on the problems troubling the EMU, as well as whether and how the crisis could affect Serbia’s EU accession and what implications it way have on the opening of negotiations Chapter 32 – Financial control.
