MP Danijela Nikolic Meets with Israel Allies Foundation Executive Director

MP MA Danijela Nikolic met today with the Executive Director of the Israel Allies Foundation, Leo van Doesburg.

The topic of the meeting was the establishment and improvement of cooperation between the National Assembly and the Foundation, which operates worldwide with the aim of promoting common values based on support for Israel, strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, and improving relations between friendly states.

Danijela Nikolic emphasised the importance of dialogue and cooperation with international partners who share common democratic and ethical principles. The values that the Israel Allies Foundation advocates are supporting peace, religious freedom and improving bilateral relations, and Serbia is open to dialogue and cooperation with all who share these goals, Nikolic stressed.

In light of these postulates, she spoke about the worrying situation in Kosovo-Metohija, which led to the exodus of Serbs from that part of the usurped Serbian territory and the violation of all human and humanitarian rights of the small Serbian population which decided to remain in their homes. She emphasized that the tragic fate of Serbian holy sites in Kosovo-Metohija represents a deep wound to the spiritual and cultural heritage of Serbia, recalling that many churches and monasteries, which have for centuries been the carriers of the Orthodox faith and Serbian history, have been the subject of attacks, desecration and destruction by Albanian extremists in recent decades.

"That is why I sincerely believe that the form of diplomacy promoted by the Foundation is a good way for the world to learn the truth, receive accurate and objective information, and see the true picture of what is happening in Kosovo-Metohija and what an ordeal the Serbian people are going through," Nikolic emphasised.

For his part, Van Doesburg stressed the importance of Serbia's inclusion in the global network of parliamentarians who base their policies on shared values. He noted with regret that the fight against terrorism is well known to both Serbia and Israel, which is all the more reason to provide mutual support to initiatives that connect legislative bodies and promote constructive dialogue and cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic, who emphasised that the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries deserve support for improving cooperation, especially at the parliamentary level.

The meeting took place in a spirit of mutual understanding, and both sides expressed hope that the talks that have begun will soon be concretised through joint activities and projects.
