MP Aleksandar Cotric Elected President of IAO Human Rights Working Group

Today, at the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) in Athens, MP Aleksandar Cotric was elected President of the IAO Human Rights Working Group.


Cotric said that the Working Group’s priority will be to monitor human, religious and minority rights as guaranteed by international law and national legislation and the reports of the IAO, international organizations, media and public relating to them.

“We will be focusing on the systemic discrimination and physical endangerment of the Christian population in Kosovo-Metohija and the Middle East”, said Aleksandar Cotric. “We will make sure that the entire world, and especially the 300 million Orthodox Christians around the world learn about the problems of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and the Christians in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and other countries in the region who are being killed, exiled and their temples destroyed, to help end these sufferings as soon as possible” said Cotric today in Athens.

The Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy is holding its General Assembly 25 – 30 June 2018 in Athens, attended by members of 27 national parliaments. In the course of the proceedings the IAO elected a new President - Sergei Gavrilov of Russia, members of the International Secretariat and other working bodies.
