MEMBERS OF THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE TALK TO GERMAN PARLIAMENTARIANS
A delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, headed by the Chairman, Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, met today at the National Assembly House with the members of the German Bundestag, Jürgen Trittin and Marieluise Beck.

The German Parliamentarians were interested in the current political situation in Serbia and its official positions at the end of the negotiation process on the status of Kosovo and Metohia, that is Serbia’s future expectations of the European Union.
Chairman Micunovic pointed out that the negotiating trio did not come up with a clear proposal on the final status of Kosovo and Metohia, because it did not receive such a mandate from the EU at all, but at the same time the Serbian negotiating side still offered several possible models for finding a solution, for which she received no answers during the talks. Elaborating the reasons why the secession of a part of its territory and formation of an independent country is unaccaptable for Serbia, Micunovic stated that it is not merely a territorial issue, but first of all an issue of abiding by interantional law. He stressed that Serbia refuses to be the only country a part of whose territory can be taken away. Micunovic said that a permanent sustainable solution must be found for Kosovo and Metohia, one that will reside on the compromise of the two sides, because otherwise, an imposition of a solution, even by the greatest authority, will seriously endanger the security in the region.
The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee asked why the European Union, while strengthening integration processes within itself and striving to eradicate state borders, supports disintegration processes in Serbia and the formation of a new country. He added that such political pragmatism and the haste to show understanding for Kosovo Albanians are incomprehensible.
