Local Gender Equality Offices representatives visit National Assembly
The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, the chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee, Leila Ruzdic-Trifunovic, and members of the Committee today met representatives of local Gender Equality Offices.
The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, the chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee, Leila Ruzdic-Trifunovic, and members of the Committee today met representatives of local Gender Equality Offices.
Mr Markovic underlined that it was necessary to adopt legislation to regulate gender equality, as well as that there would be no true gender equality without women getting 50% of seats in parliament.
Representatives of local authorities presented the current situation with regard to gender equality and participation of women in politics in their communities. Problems of constituting and functioning of local Gender Equality Offices were especially discussed.
It was agreed for the Gender Equality Committee and the Chairman of the National Assembly to advise municipal officials to support the activities of local Gender Equality Offices.
