Linta Receives Novi Sad Janj Heritage Society Executive Board Members
The Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Miodrag Linta met today at of the National Assembly House with the members of the Executive Board of the Heritage Society of Janj people from Novi Sad.
The members of the Executive Board of the Heritage Society of Janj people from Novi Sad spoke to Linta about the history of the Society, founded in February 2009 in response to the wish of the Janj people from Vojvodina to have a branch in Serbia. The members of the Society said that Janj is a special historical, geographic and cultural community in the Republic of Srpska, home to a great many Serbs, that had, thanks to its isolation, managed to preserve its customs, culture, tradition and national costume. They spoke of the natural wealth of Janj - its islets, Mt. Vitorog, Vagan Cave, Glogovac monastery, the traditional venue of the Janj assembly, river Pliva and the gorge of river Janj which is a protected nature reserve of the Republic of Srpska.
