Twenty selected students, student parliament members participating in project Learn with Europe in a two-day visit to Brussels, talked to the president of the Friends of Serbia parliamentary group and some of its members: Victor Bostinaru, Zoran Thaler, Eduard Kukan and Tanja Fajon.

Bostinaru, the founder of the Friends of Serbia parliamentary group, was pleased that some of its members would have the opportunity to talk to “Serbia’s new elite”, whom he informed about the creation of the parliamentary body and its work, stressing that in a very short period a great many EP members applied for membership in the Friends of Serbia parliamentary group. “You are Serbia’s chance, Serbia’s new elite. Serbia will need you most the day after it gains EU membership, when it should use your knowledge and professionalism for the upcoming period”, said Bostinaru adding that the moment is not that far in the future.

Kukan welcomed the students stressing that Serbia should use projects like this one to urge young people to take a more active part in speeding up Serbia’s integration into the European Union.

Fajon told the students that they should influence all around them to develop tolerance and understanding, which is very important for every nation.

Thaler also advised the students not to leave destiny in other people’s hands, but contribute to its creation.

The students, representatives of different faculties, from political and medical sciences to law, environmental protection, philosophy, fine arts and theology, had many questions for the EP members, among them about the possible annulment of the decision on visa liberalisation, Serbia’s upcoming steps toward full-fledged EU membership, elections in Kosovo-Metohija, networking between Serbian and EU youth etc. The students taking part in project Learn with Europe come from almost all larger Serbian towns – Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Kosovska Mitrovica.

Last night, they were also received by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Brussels, H.E. Radomir Diklic who briefed them on the situation as well as the position of the Serbian community in Brussels and Luxembourg. On the last day of the visit the students are going to meet H.E. Roksanda Nincic, head of the Mission to EU in Brussels, and then visit the European Commission.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is the leader of project Learn with Europe realised in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, EU Delegation to Serbia and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. The project was enabled by Telekom Serbia
