The Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs, had a meeting today, in the National Assembly House, with Ombudsman Zoran Pasalic at which they agreed on closer cooperation and more detailed monitoring of the National Assembly's recommendations to the Ombudsman's Office.
The officials also discussed the role and importance of the institution of the Ombudsman in the European integration process, especially in the area of the rule of law and protection of human rights, as well as the improvement of inter-institutional cooperation.
Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs stressed that constructive exchange of information between the National Assembly and independent institutions is of key importance for the successful implementation of reforms and fulfilment of obligations within the framework of Serbia's EU accession process and the recommendations the Union gives to Serbia in its annual reports.
Ombudsman Zoran Pasalic emphasised that the institution he heads is dedicated to protecting the rights of all citizens, and that through regular reports and initiatives, it provides important support for improving the legislative and institutional framework.
The officials agreed that it is necessary to further strengthen dialogue and joint activities, in order to incorporate the contribution of independent bodies as efficiently as possible into the European integration process and improve the position of citizens.
