Kosovo-Metohija Committee Chairman Meets with Romanian Ambassador

The Chairman of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija MA Milovan Drecun met with the Ambassador of Romania in Belgrade H.E. Silvia Davidoiu.

The Ambassador expressed interest in intensifying cooperation with the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija because, as she pointed out, Romania pays special attention to the Kosovo issue. She informed the Committee Chairman that the same request was sent to Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic and the Director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija Petar Petkovic.

She reaffirmed that Romania remains principled in its position not to recognise the self-proclaimed state of Kosovo and that only a solution acceptable to Serbia is acceptable to Romania. She also stressed that Romania strongly supports Serbia on its path to full EU membership.

The Committee Chairman thanked Romania for its friendly support and the readiness to intensify and deepen future cooperation. Drecun informed the Ambassador about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija in detail. He spoke about the missing persons, property, desecration of Serbian shrines, Pristina’s obstruction of the dialogue, non-recognition of the electoral will of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija and stressed that Serbia would not give up on seeking solutions to these burning issues:

"We are ready to look for a compromise solution, we will reach it exclusively by political means and dialogue. What is certain is that Serbia will never recognise the false state of Kosovo," Drecun said.

He warned the Ambassador about one particularly disturbing fact and that is the formation of the Kosovo Army.

"According to Resolution 1244, no military formation, except KFOR, should be in Kosovo-Metohija, and they are still strengthening special units, building a new base in Djakovica and putting pressure on Serbs to join the security forces," Drecun said.

According to him, that army should acquire full operational capabilities by 2029, and military service would be mandatory for men aged 18 to 34.
