On 18 December 2008, under the patronage of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, at the National Assembly House, the tenth anniversary of the Ivo Andric Academy was ceremonially commemorated.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who could not attend the event due to her duties at the Parliament, addressed its participants by a letter in which she stressed the importance of the Academy and its decade-long work on spreading the literary classic, statesman and diplomat Ivo Andric’s work. Applauding the important cultural manifestation, particularly the founder and members of the Academy, the National Assembly Speaker stressed that this important institution’s ten-year work notes cultural achievements and various accomplishments. The Academy bearing the name of the great Nobel Prize winner paved the way for writers from Serbia and the diaspora aiding their work and publishing over fifty books. Following the achievements of great Serbian artists, the Academy, in addition to about thirty individual recognitions, awarded its greatest honor – Life Achievement Award – to Emir Kusturica, Academician Dragoljub Nadeljkovic and others. We all lok forward to the new accomplishments of the Ivo Andric Academy in its next decade of existence, were the parting words of the Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic’s letter.

The Academy’s founder and president, novelist Radomir Smiljanic, talked about its ten-year work.

Life Achievement Awards, special honours and letters of thanks traditionally presented by the Academy for achievements in the promotion and development of Serbian literature and culture were awarded at the celebration.
