On 6 September, a delegation of the Israeli Parliament visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

On 6 September, a delegation of the Israeli Parliament visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Greeting the guests from Israel, the Chairman of the Assembly, Predrag Markovic, expressed his pleasure at the fact that the National Assembly can finally boast the formation of friendship groups, and that the first of these is the Israeli-Serbian Friendship Group.

The Israeli delegation met members of the Israeli-Serbian Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Foreign Affairs Committee. Parliamentary officials exchanged opinions on the ordering of the two countries, activities taken to reduce poverty, and social welfare and health service solutions. There was also talk of possibilities for business co-operation with the support of the governments of Serbia and Israel, to be carried out through projects, especially in the field of agriculture.

Israeli parliamentary officials showed great interest for the adoption of restitution legislation in Serbia, which is of great importance not only for the Jewish community, but also for individuals and religious groups, including the Serbian Orthodox Church. They also asked the deputies for support for organising an event to mark the 80th anniversary of the Belgrade Synagogue, to be held next year.
