Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy Awards Recognition to Serbian Cultural Society Prosvjeta Austria Board President

The President of the Austrian Board of the Serbian Cultural Society Prosvjeta, Srdjan Mijalkovic from Vienna, received the charter of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, handed to him on 30 December by the head of the Serbian Parliamentary delegation to IAO Aleksandar Cotric.

At a ceremony at the National Assembly House in Belgrade Mijalkovic received the recognition for his “persistent and dedicated work on keeping and advancing cultural and religious values, respect for human and religious rights and the unity of Orthodox peoples”.

Handing Mijalkovic the Charter, Aleksandar Cotric said that “SCS Prosvjeta had in the past years maintained excellent cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, international organisation of parliamentarians from 28 countries from all the continents”. The IAO is headed by the member of the Russian State Duma Sergei Popov, and its seat is in Athens, in the Hellenic Parliament.

“SCS Prosvjeta is an example for all of our organisations in the diaspora because of its many successful projects such as Serbian language classes, spiritual forums, expert lectures, humanitarian concerts, theatre productions, celebrations of important dates and anniversaries, which has greatly helped the strengthening of spirituality among Serbs in Austria and ties with the Serbian Orthodox Church Austria-Switzerland Diocese”, said MP Aleksandar Cotric.

Thanking the IAO for the recognition, professor Srdjan Mijalkovic said that it would “motivate all the members of SCS Prosvjeta to dedicate themselves to the presentation of the Serbian culture in Austria and Orthodox identity, and foster ties among Serbs wherever they may be, with full respect for the differences in Austria, the host country, which has become the home to hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world”.
