Biography

Born on 1 January 1966 in Prizren, attended Stevan Sremac Grammar School in Nis and graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, with a grade point average of 10.

In 1992 he was elected MP in the Federal Assembly of the FRY, and in 2004 he was also elected MP in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. He was Minister of Information in the Interim Government of Serbia in 2000. He has been President of the Socialist Party of Serbia since 2006.

He was the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior from July 2008 to July 2012. He served as Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior from July 2012 to April 2014. Since April 2014, he has been the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to date. In 2015, he was the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and host of the OSCE Conference in Belgrade.

He has several decades of experience and results achieved in participation and management in various executive and legislative bodies in the Republic of Serbia. In the departments he headed he achieved prominent results, especially in terms of foreign policy where his activity in international institutions and organizations (Security Council and UN Assembly, European Union, OSCE, UNESCO etc.) and bilateral and multilateral diplomacy defended the state and national interests of Serbia, especially concerning Kosovo-Metohija.

He was awarded the “Best European” award in 2009, the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation in 2018 and the Statue of Captain Misa Anastasijevic in 2018.

He held the office of President of BC "Partizan" from Belgrade, Vice President of the Yugoslav Olympic Committee and President of the Sports Association of Serbia.
