Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Committee Chairman on International Roma Day
On International Roma Day, 8 April, the Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Dr Muamer Bacevac drew attention to the need to improve the living and working conditions of the Roma community.
“Poverty, inequality and prejudice against the Roma are still visible problems present both in our society and around the world. The efforts the state is making, through the implementation of various affirmative action measures, have led to progress and yielded results, especially in certain areas, such as education. I hope that in the near future we will witness the emergence of a new generation of Roma men and women who will be aware of their abilities, knowledge, skills and talents. It is the state’s job to provide them with support and create an environment that provides them with the opportunity to prove their abilities, acquire an adequate education, live on the earnings of their work and be equal members of our society in every way. My congratulations on the International Roma Day to all Roma women and men”, said Dr Muamer Bacevac.
