The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today, at the Small Hall of the National Assembly House, a delegation comprising 152 high-school students from the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. The students from these municipalities were awarded scholarships by the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

The National Assembly Speaker was pleased that she can welcome the students visiting the capital and the most important state institutions, at the National Assembly House, the supreme legislative and representative body. She expressed an expectation that the project of scholarships for young people from Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, initiated by the Government’s Coordination Body, shall continue in the years to come as a support to peace and stability at the south of Serbia and encouragement for the integration of the population of that part of Serbia.

“As the National Assembly Speaker and a professor I wish to share the joy of your success, hopes and goals and influence the state of Serbia to support you as much as it can”, Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic stressed.

The President of the Serbian Government’s Coordination Body for the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, Minister Milan Markovic wished the high-schoolers all the best in their education and said that the state of Serbia shall do all in its power to ensure the appropriate conditions for it. The scholarships were awarded to children with one or no parents, while the parents’ social position and the students’ scholastic achievement were among the criteria.

The high-schoolers were also greeted by deputy Riza Halimi.

The students from the southern Serbian municipalities were taken on a tour of the National Assembly House, where they attended the session, as well as a tour of the National Assembly building, at 14 Kralja Milana Street.

The students were accompanied by the representatives of their high-schools, as well as the prefects of the municipalities of Presevo Bujanovac and Medvedja.

During the day they shall also visit other state institutions in Belgrade. At the Presidential Office of Serbia they shall be received by the President of the Republic Boris Tadic, and at the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, by Assistant Mayor Radmila Hrustanovic. At the Palace of Serbia the high-school students from the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja shall receive their scholarships from the Minister of Education, Zarko Obradovic.
