Health and Family Committee Chairman Meets with Head of WHO Serbia Office
The Chairman of the Health and Family Committee Doc. Dr Darko Laketic met today at the National Assembly House with the Head of the World Health Organisation Serbia Office Zsofia Pusztai to discuss the activities to precede the application for funds from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM).
On the occasion they emphasized the importance of the establishment of a National HIV/AIDS Commission and Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), as well as National HIV/AIDS Strategy as pre-requisites for cooperation with and support from GFATM. Laketic briefed the guest on the Committees’ activities relating to the election of a representative of the civil sector for the CCM in line with the GFATM rules.
Pusztai said that the conditions Serbia must meet in order to apply for GFATM funds are the establishment of a single commission and drafting of a strategy accompanied by an action plan in the field, and added that she hoped these activities would profit from the cooperation.
Laketic concluded that the Health and Family Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the non-governmental sector, would continue to work toward meeting the pre-requisites for the country’s application for GFATM funds, so as to improve the health care system in Serbia and secure better health protection for persons with HIV, malaria and tuberculosis.
