Head of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Russia Meets with Russian Delegation

The Head of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Russia Aleksandra Djurovic met, at the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the Russian Federation taking part in the 48th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), in Belgrade.

The Head of the PFG greeted the Russian delegation headed by Mikhail Yemelyanov, stressing that she was honoured to be able to, as the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, for the first time in the current legislature, welcome a delegation of the Russian Federation.

Informing the guests that the 131-member PFG with Russia is the largest one in the National Assembly, Djurovic said that the overwhelming interest stems from the traditionally good and friendly relations between the two countries and their people. She said, the relations between the two countries are reflected by the establishment of the Russian State Duma - National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Cooperation Commission as a unique and highest mode of interparliamentary cooperation. Djurovic added that the Commission is expected to meet, for the second time, in Belgrade in early 2017, which would be a continuation of the meeting held on 17 December 2015 in Moscow, when the Commission was set up.

The Head of the Russian delegation agreed with the PFG Head that Russia and Serbia share traditionally friendly relations, adding that he hoped for an improvement of overall cooperation. He said that, due to the recent parliamentary elections in Russia, the State Duma still has not set up parliamentary friendship groups, but he is sure the parliamentary friendship group with Serbia would also be quite large. Yemelyanov said that the Russian State Duma - National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Cooperation Commission is testimony to the good relations and steadfast cooperation between the two countries and that, along with the other interparliamentary activities, it would contribute to an even better diplomatic and friendly relations between the two nations.

Finally, the officials agreed that the cooperation within international parliamentary organisations is at a very high level, evidenced by the Russian delegation’s participation in the 48th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
