Head of PFG with Tunisia Meets with Tunisian Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Tunisia Dubravka Kralj met today at the National Assembly House with the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to the Republic of Serbia Seyf-Allah Rejeb.

Dubravka Kralj highlighted the hundred years of traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and thanked Tunisia for its principled decision not to recognise the self-proclaimed independence of the southern Serbian province, receiving assurances from the Ambassador that Tunisia would remain firm on its stance on Kosovo. In support of that, the Ambassador said that the citizens of so-called Kosovo are not allowed to enter Tunisia as the country does not recognise the passports of the non-existent state.

The officials agreed that there is room to further cooperation between the two countries, especially at the economic and inter-parliamentary level. The Ambassador emphasised the importance of this type of cooperation as it can contribute to the already traditionally good political relations between the two countries. Among other things, the visit of the current National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic to Tunisia, then in the capacity of head of diplomacy, testifies to the good bilateral relations. Saying that the Tunisian Parliament has set up Friendship Group with Serbia, the Ambassador expressed hope that the two friendship groups would develop successful cooperation.

Speaking about the importance of cooperation in the field of tourism, Dubravka Kralj said that, according to surveys, Tunisia is the third most attractive destination among Serbs and asked about coronavirus-related protocols that could affect this year's trips to Tunisia. At the moment, a PCR test is necessary to enter Tunisia, but the Scientific Council has still not unveiled any decision on procedures to be carried out during the tourist season, said the Ambassador reminding his host that last year the test was not obligatory for tourist groups.

The officials also discussed the customs agreement scheduled to be signed at the end of the year. The Ambassador outlined the existing difficulties concerning customs clearance between the two countries with the hope that said agreement would help overcome them. He also announced the upcoming 18th Summit of La Francophonie, which Serbia is an associate member of, saying that he hoped Serbian parliamentarians would take part in the cultural festival.
