Head of National Assembly Delegation to PACE Meets with Russian Embassy Second Secretary

The Head of the National Assembly delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Biljana Pantic Pilja met today at the National Assembly House with the Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to Serbia Andrey Buravov.

The main topics of discussion concerned the autumn session of the National Assembly and the current topics debated at the last session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Secretary was interested in the issue of the membership of so-called Kosovo in the PACE, but the Head of the Serbian delegation, Biljana Pantic Pilja, pointed out that this issue was not discussed at the PACE session, because it became clear within the Assembly that the Pristina authorities, led by Albin Kurti, have not fulfilled even the basic obligations of the Brussels and Ohrid Agreements, and that the current events in Kosovo-Metohija once again indicate that Kurti and his arbitrariness should not be trusted.

Buravov took the opportunity to thank the Serbian delegation for the consistent positions it champions within this pan-European organisation, as well as for the decision not to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation. Pilja said that Serbia will remain committed to its principles, the defence of sovereignty and national interests in accordance with international law, and reject positions that it considers to be inconsistent with its foreign policy.

The officials also discussed meetings at the bilateral parliamentary level, with Buravov stating that he expects a visit of the Russian Duma's Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia by the end of the current year.
