Half a Century of Roma Activism in the World

The National Assembly House hosted an organisational meeting today to discuss the preparation and planning for the celebration of April 8 - International Roma Day in the Republic of Serbia and the 50th anniversary of the First World Roma Congress.

A 23-member Organising Committee was formed at the beginning of the meeting, intended to propose activities related to the celebration of the jubilee of the World Roma Organisation. MP Prof. Dr Dragoljub Ackovic proposed to hold a public hearing to present the results of the work of the World Roma Organisation.

Organising Committee Director Dalibor Nakic said that the first event will be organized on April 8 on the topic "Half a Century of Roma Activism in the World", to be held in Belgrade, Subotica, Novi Sad and Nis. The activities will be organised on a monthly basis in the following 8-month period, in areas such as literature, language, music and Roma activism.

The meeting was attended by MPs Prof. Dr Dragoljub Ackovic, Sandra Jokovic and Aleksandar Cotric, then Jelena Jovanovic, member of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina, Dalibor Nakic, President of the Roma National Minority Council in the Republic of Serbia, Zlatomir Jovanovic, writer, Jovan Damjanovic, Roma activist, Marija Aleksandrovic, university professor, Dejan Vlajkovic, Secretary General of the Roma National Minority Council in the Republic of Serbia, Pava Cabrilovski, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Roma National Minority Council, Milivoje Didanovic, Chairman of the Roma National Minority Council Culture Committee, Milos Nikolic, member of the Subotica City Council for Education and Culture, Ljiljana Mihajlovic, acting director of the Office for Roma Inclusion, and Una Berisha, journalist.
