Green Parliamentary Group’s First Thematic Debate

The National Assembly hosted the first thematic debate organized by the Green Parliamentary Group on Serbia’s environmental policy in the European integration process.


In the introductory part of the debate, Green Parliamentary Group’s independent consultant Mirko Popovic and the MPs revised the process of implementation of the EU environmental codes. The participants spoke about the accessibility of information through which the civil society can monitor Serbia’s progress to the EU in the field and the different levels of the progress achieved so far.

The attending also discussed climate change and the Global Initiative to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions adopted by 190 countries, Serbia among them, as well as waste management and challenges of primary waste selection and illegal dump sites which can be found all over Serbia.

The conclusions of the debate concerned the role of the Environmental Protection Committee in the protection of the environment in Serbia, communication with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Committee’s initiatives to put environmental issues back onto the social agenda.

The debate was attended by MPs Nada Lazic, Gordana Comic, Dr Dijana Vukomanovic, Olena Papuga, Sonja Pavlovic, Goran Cabradi, Borka Grubor, Jasmina Karanac, Dr Muamer Bacevac and Dr Svetlana Nikolic Pavlovic.
