Gojkovic at Inter-Parliamentary Union Session

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Head of the standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union Maja Gojkovic will be heading the National Assembly delegation to the 139th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva, starting on 15 October.


The topic of the general debate of this year’s session, to be attended by representatives of 130 countries, including more than 50 heads of parliament and 40 of their deputies, as well as 700 members of parliament, is “Parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in the age of innovation and technological change”.

The attending parliamentarians, expected to comprise 33% women, will discuss migrations, combating terrorism, science, technology and innovation, sustainable development goals, human rights, sexism and harassment, “fake news”, etc.

The National Assembly delegation to the 139th IPU Assembly in Geneva comprises the members of the Assembly’s standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, one of whom, MP Mladen Grujic was elected member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Executive Committee which is the first time for Serbia to have a representative in the Executive Committee of the biggest and oldest parliamentary organization in the world, boasting 178 member states.
