Gojkovic and Melescanu opined that setting up a number of joint projects could be a good way to mark next year’s 140^th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Gojkovic said that the visit of the Romanian Foreign Minister is important in the view of Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2019 and thanked the country for its support of Serbia’s European integration. Gojkovic said that Serbia has great expectations of the Romanian Presidency which is to prioritize the EU enlargement process, stressing that EU accession remains Serbia’s top foreign policy goal and the country is committed to internal reform and harmonization of national legislation with the EU acquis.

The Romanian Foreign Minister said that promoting the idea of EU enlargement will be an important aspect of his country’s Presidency of the EU Council, with the Western Balkans taking pride of place in said process.

Melescanu said that Romania fully endorses Serbia’s negotiations with the EU and believes these could be sped up, stressing that Romania will support Serbia on the path to Europe.

Gojkovic thanked Romania for its continued principled support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, expressing her concerns about Pristina’s 100% customs tax on goods from central Serbia and the decision to form the so-called Kosovo Army which is a brutal violation of UNSC Resolution 1244 and all relevant regional agreements.

The Romanian Foreign Minister said that Romania will not recognize the independence of Kosovo-Metohija and believes it is time for dialogue. Melescanu said that some of Pristina’s acts such as the 100% customs tax and the decision to form Kosovo Army are discouraging and could cause a world of difficulties in the Belgrade-Pristina talks.

Gojkovic and Melescanu highlighted the importance of parliamentary cooperation, opining that it has so far been excellent and that it would be good to intensify and advance parliamentary relations. Gojkovic and Melescanu agreed that it would be good if the head of the Romanian Parliament were to visit Serbia during Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council.

Gojkovic and Melescanu praised the cooperation between the parliamentarians at the multilateral level such as in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and urged for further development of said cooperation and mutual support for initiatives in international parliamentary organizations. Gojkovic said that the Serbian Assembly will host the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and the 141^st IPU Assembly next year, being the first European host in 20 years, and invited the Romanian Parliament to both meetings.

The officials also emphasized the importance of economic cooperation and trade, as well as Romanian investments in Serbia.

Gojkovic and Melescanu also talked about national minorities saying that the two countries never had any minority-related problems, with the Romanian minority in Serbia being always loyal to the state, as well as the Serbian minority in Romania.
