Gojkovic Meets with Heads of Iranian and Kazakh Parliaments

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic, taking part in the 3rd meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments, 8 – 10 October in Turkey, met today with the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Larijani.


Gojkovic and Larijani highlighted the excellent and friendly bilateral relations, sure that the fruitful cooperation on the advancement and expansion of relations would continue.

Gojkovic said that there is much interest to develop comprehensive cooperation with Iran to the two countries’ mutual benefit, pointing out that Serbia is committed to deepening the friendly relations and strengthening economic cooperation.

Gojkovic and Larijani praised the recent intensification of parliamentary cooperation both at the highest level, and the level of working bodies and parliamentary friendship groups.

Gojkovic thanked Iran for respecting international law and its principled stance on the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija, saying that Serbia is committed to dialogue and the realization of what was agreed and briefed the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.

Larijani reaffirmed Iran’s support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

Gojkovic and Larijani discussed best ways to develop economic cooperation and trade, as well as combating terrorism, and Gojkovic invited the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly to visit Serbia.

Gojkovic also met with Kazakh Parliament Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin to discuss improving parliamentary cooperation as an important segment of overall relations between the two friendly states.

Gojkovic invited Nigmatulin to visit Serbia and help further the cooperation between the parliaments, which would also provide an excellent opportunity to sign a cooperation agreement as another way to solidify the relationship between Serbia and Kazakhstan.

Nigmatulin invited the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the next, 4th meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments, in Kazakhstan.
