The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Andrea Orizio to discuss the continuation of the National Assembly’s cooperation with the organizations and support for the reform process.
Gojkovic and Orizio highlighted the importance of the cooperation between the National Assembly and the OSCE Mission so far, especially the Mission’s successful cooperation with and support of the Women’s Parliamentary Network as one of the important aspects of parliamentary work. Orizio said that the Mission is ready to continue its cooperation with the Women’s Parliamentary Network and the informal Green Parliamentary Work.
Gojkovic and Orizio also talked about the Parliament’s current work. Gojkovic spoke about the improvements in the Parliament’s work such as not passing laws by urgent procedure except when necessary and in the case of ratification of international agreements, as well as not merging items on the agenda. Gojkovic said that the Parliament had reviewed the reports of a number of independent bodies and that she had also convoked a session for 10 July where the MPs are to deliberate on the reports of the Ombudsman, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Anti-Corruption Agency, accompanied by conclusions of the competent committees. Orizio emphasized the importance of having the reports of independent bodies presented at the Parliament.
Gojkovic informed the Head of the OSCE Mission about the procedure for the election of a new Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, which is currently underway, and the procedure for the amendment of the Constitution launched by the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues.
The meeting was also attended by Stefana Miladinovic, head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
