The Serbian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe met with the delegations of Germany and Belgium during the PACE Autumn Session in Strasbourg.
The head of the German delegation, Knut Abraham from the Christian Democratic Union, welcomed the initiative to establish closer contacts, open dialogue on all topics and more direct cooperation between the two delegations after the constitution of the new German delegation. He said that the two countries have a common future, that Serbia belongs in Europe and that they see the future of the Republic of Serbia in the European Union. He expressed his readiness for further development of parliamentary cooperation and was interested in the activities and priorities of our delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The meeting was attended by members Jurgen Hardt from the Christian Democratic Union, Dr Franziska Kersten from the Socialist Party and Martina Kempf from the Alternative for Germany.
The Belgian delegation was interested in the political situation in Serbia, the development prospects of our country and Serbia's positions and activities in the current processes in the region. The head of the Belgian delegation, Andries Gryffroy from the New Flemish Alliance, said that a proposal for a visit by a Belgian parliamentary delegation to Serbia would be considered next week. Christophe Lacroix from the Socialist Party and Benjamin Dahl from the Flemish Christian Democratic Party also participated in the meeting.
The National Assembly delegation emphasised the desire for further intensification of parliamentary cooperation and openness to improving dialogue. The delegation members presented the political situation in the country from different positions. In the talks, it was emphasised that both the government and the opposition have the same positions on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, thoroughly acquainting the officials with the difficult situation in which Serbs live in Kosovo-Metohija.
On our side, the meetings were attended by Biljana Pantic Pilja, Head of the standing delegation, Aleksandar Mirkovic, Djordje Stankovic and Jelena Milosevic.
