Fourth and Fifth Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the fourth and fifth sittings, held on 23 February 2021 and closed to the public, the Security Services Control Committee considered and adopted the Military Security Agency activity reports for the period up to 30 September 2020, as well as the Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence Services 2020 Activity Report.


The Committee members gave a positive assessment of the reports of the Military Security Agency and stated that, in the reporting period, the Agency had successfully realised all of its planned, as well as extraordinary tasks. Over the course of a very challenging period and in the specific circumstances caused by the pandemic, the Military Security Agency managed to ensure the realisation of all security protection and counter-intelligence tasks within its purview.

The Military Security Agency’s cooperation with the administrative and command bodies of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army, as well as its cooperation with other competent bodies in the Republic of Serbia and foreign partner services, was also assessed positively, ensuring the timely detection and assessment of defence system risk indicators and employment of efficient measures of counterintelligence and security protection of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Army.

The engagement of Military Security Agency personnel during the state of emergency was also assessed positively, as was their active participation in the Command Team monitoring the engagement of Serbian Army staff on providing support to the civilian authorities during the fight against the pandemic.

Considering the Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence Services 2020 Activity Report, the Committee members stated that the previous practice of extremely good cooperation with the Inspector General proved mutually beneficial and that the Inspector General’s objective and impartial work had contributed to improving the legality and regularity of operation of the Ministry of Defence. The Committee praised the positive assessments of the legality and regularity of the work of the Ministry of Defence security services presented by the Inspector General for the reporting period and concluded that the security services should continue to implement all of the Inspector General’s possible recommendations. Cooperation between the Committee and the Inspector General will continue in the coming period, especially in terms of monitoring the legality of the implementation of special procedures and measures of confidential data collection.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Aleksandar Markovic, Goran Pekarski, Slavisa Bulatovic, Milimir Vujadinovic, Vladan Zagradjanin, Borisav Kovacevic, Ilija Zivotic and Justina Pupin Koscal.
