Fourth Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on Saturday, 24 May, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee discussed the details of their visit to the flooded areas. After the sitting was concluded they commenced their visit to the endangered municipalities.

On 24 May 2014, a delegation of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee visited the flooded areas of the municipalities of Svilajnac, Jagodina, Paracin, Varvarin and Trstenik. The delegation, comprising Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic and Committee members Miodrag Nikolic, Milija Miletic, Zoran Antic, Arpad Fremond and Zarko Bogatinovic, had a series of meetings with representatives of the local self-governments and agricultural crop owners.

In the Municipality of Svilajnac the representatives of the local self-government briefed the Committee members on the damages suffered by their municipality. Miroslav Marinkovic, President of the Municipality of Svilajnac, said that the municipal commission has been deployed into the field and is examining the impact of the flooding. He said that the damages to the livestock fund have been less than expected, adding that the terrains had been fully sanitised and disinfected with the enormous help of Danish and Hungarian expert teams.

After the Municipality of Svilajnac, the Committee members visited Jagodina where the Mayor of Jagodina Dragan Markovic informed the Committee members about the impact of the floods on the territory of the town. 2800ha of agricultural land, 2000 households and 170 greenhouses had been flooded and, the Mayor of Jagodina said, according to unofficial estimates the damage will amount to 110 million RSD, without infrastructural objects.

In the Municipality of Paracin the Committee members talked to the President of the Municipality Sasa Paunovic. He said that 300 people were evacuated with the help of the military and police. 5000 households had been flooded, out of which 1200 houses had been continuously flooded for several days, and according to estimates, the centre of town suffered the most damage.

On the territories of the municipalities of Varvarin and Trstenik the MPs visited the villages of Obrez and Pocekovina and talked to the President of the Municipality and owners of the agricultural crops that suffered the most damage.
