Forty-Second Sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija

At the sitting held on 31 January, the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija reviewed the Audit Report on the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija 2010 Annual Financial Report, submitted by the State Audit Institution (DRI).

Zivota Antic presented the Report to the Committee members on the behalf of the DRI, and on the occasion Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic informed the Committee that the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija has so far addressed 90% of the objections the State Audit Institution had made. He emphasised the absence of oversights in public procurement, adding that proper procedure had been followed.

The Committee members were also briefed on the decisions made by Municipal Assemblies of the following municipalities in AP Kosovo-Metohija: Kosovska Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic as regards calling a referendum for 14 and 15 February 2012.

In the debate on the announced referendum the Committee members voiced different opinions. MPs from the opposition parties urged for the referendum, and the ruling coalition MPs deemed that there was no need to call a referendum as no one in the province or central Serbia was in favour of Kosovo institutions. MPs living in Kosovo stated that there should be a referendum so that the citizens in the north of Kosovo could have their say and stand united. Taking part in the discussion, Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic stressed that the Government of the Republic of Serbia and state authorities were against Kosovo institutions in the north of Kosovo-Metohija, but that a referendum on the issue was needless and detrimental.

The discussion on the announced referendum ended with no conclusion as at the end the sitting lacked a decision-making quorum.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Ljubomir Kragovic.
