The chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Gordana Comic, met Green Party MP to the Austrian Parliament, Stefan Schennach, to discuss political situation in Serbia, improving bilateral, especially inter-parliamentary co-operation, and other pressing issues of importance for the two countries.

Mr Schennach was especially interested in the upcoming referendum to confirm the new Serbian Constitution, as well as in Serbia’s accession to the EU.

Ms Comic emphasised that the new Constitution was an improvement over the previous one in many areas, citing the speed of its adoption, and the lack of public discussion, as her major concern.

She added that Serbia was achieving good results in regional co-operation, as well as that it was necessary to sign the Treaty on Stabilisation and Association with the EU as soon as possible.

Mr Schennach underlined the readiness of Austria, Serbia’s traditional partner in the fields of economics, politics, culture, and other issues, to help Serbia overcome problems facing it on the road to European integrations as soon as possible.

Ms Comic stressed that Serbia was becoming more and more attractive for foreign investors, and again underscored the need for increased Austrian investment into Serbia’s economy.
