Foreign Affairs Committee Meets with Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and Committee members Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, Dubravka Filipovski and Prof. Dr Milorad Mijatovic, met today at the National Assembly with the Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia headed by Michael Jeno.

Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic opined that the interparliamentary cooperation is following an upward trend, as evidenced by the visit of the Indonesian delegation. Obradovic thanked the Republic of Indonesia for respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and not recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.

The Head of the Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia Michael Jeno focused on the development of economic relations between the two countries, stressing that there have been some significant economic transactions and investments in the last two years and adding that cooperation between the military industries is on the rise as well. Jeno also mentioned the extensive educational cooperation and student exchange funded by both the Indonesian and Serbian governments. He had questions about Serbia’s progress on the path to EU integration.

Speaking of potential avenues for further economic cooperation, Zarko Obradovic said that Serbia is an ideal investment partner since it has the properly trained and qualified workforce and is an EU candidate state, has a regulated legislative framework and the laws tom guarantee investment security and open new factories. Thanks to its geographical position, Serbia could be the hub for Indonesia’s trade with the countries in the region and the EU, concluded Obradovic.

The meeting was attended by the Head of the PFG with Indonesia Ljiljana Malusic, and Indonesian Ambassador Harry Richard James Kandou.
