Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Meets with Greek Ambassador to Serbia

Following a successful visit to Athens, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Greek Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Elias Eliades.

Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic welcomed the Greek Ambassador, saying how highly Serbia esteems its 148 years of successful cooperation with Greece. Though two countries enjoy traditionally good relations, he opined that they should work on intensifying cooperation at all levels, especially the parliamentary. The Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman also hopes that the two countries’ parliaments would take active part in marking the 150 years of diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Eliades and Chairman Obradovic discussed the upcoming visits of Greek delegations to Serbia. They spoke about the visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Alternate Minister for European Affairs on Monday, 5 December, and the joint meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Integration Committee with the Greek delegation.

They also talked about the coming official visit of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament to the Republic of Serbia on 18 December, aimed at advancig the two countries’ parliamentary cooperation.

Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic thanked Greece for its support of Serbia’s EU path, especially its principled stance of non-recognition of the self-declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.

H.E. Elias Eliades agreed with Obradovic that the cooperation between Serbia and Greece should be raised to a higher level considering the two nations’ historical relations, hoping that the coming visits will further promote diplomatic relations. He added that the Greek delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Alternate Minister for European Affairs will also comprise Greek business people which will lend additional impulse to the economic cooperation between Serbia and Greece.
