Foreign Affairs Committee - Press Release

At today’s sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic informed the Committee members about the reasons why the Serbian and Spanish delegations walked out of the Interparliamentary Conference on the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), held in Vienna on 11 and 12 October 2018.

The Serbian and Spanish parliamentary delegations walked out of the Conference on Thursday, 11 October, in protest against the fact that the provisional institutions of Pristina were represented by a flag and the name “Kosovo” without an asterisk.

Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic informed the Committee members that in the meantime the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia received a letter from the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus stating that the Cypriot delegation also walked out of the Conference in protest against the fact that the host country, as the organizer of the gathering, had broken the Conference procedural rules and invited the representatives of the so-called Kosovo parliament to take part in the Conference as observers not accepting the request that they be represented in accordance with the Agreement on Regional Representation.

The organizers themselves subsequently confirmed that the delegations of Serbia, Spain and Cyprus had justifiably left the Conference in Vienna by sending a list of attendees where the representatives of so-called “Kosovo” were marked by an asterisk and a footnote.
