First Sitting of the Action Group for Political System Reform
At the first sitting of the Action Group for Political System Reform, held on 20 May, the Chairman of the Action Group, Zoran Babic, asked the members, i.e. representatives of all the parliamentary groups, to cast away their political vanities and approach the work constructively and honestly.
“This can only be achieved through dialogue. The work and establishment of this team is not a smoke screen and stage for quarrels, but a way to come up with solutions to improve our political system”, said Babic. He stressed that the Action Group is not a team for the amendment of the Constitution, but for the reform of the political system.
He said that the team is about to tackle a big task which calls for the participation of many relevant factors. Therefore Babic stressed it is necessary to invite the representatives of the civil sector, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, international organisations, EU bodies and political parties not currently in the Parliament.
Babic said he expected the support of all the Action Group members and that he believes that with the willingness and mutual support of all involved, the Action Group could come up with feasible solutions quite soon.
In the course of the discussion, the Action Group members shared their views and opinions on the topics to be addressed at the very beginning of the Group’s operation. The Action Group members agreed that the reform of the political system is a necessity and declared themselves ready to take active part in the Group’s efforts.
Following the discussion, they unanimously adopted the following Conclusions:
1. The Chairman of the Action Group for Political System Reform, Zoran Babic, is charged with drafting, with the representatives of the National Assembly Support Service, and presenting to the Action Group a work programme proposal for the upcoming period,
2. Each parliamentary group is to prepare a list of topics and laws it believes should be amended for the next sitting,
3. Decide, for the next sitting of the Action Group, how to invite the representatives of the civil sector to take part in the work of the Action Group.
The sitting was attended by Dijana Vukomanovic, Gordana Comic, Balint Pasztor, Aleksandar Jugovic, Miroslav Markicevic, Bojan Kostres, Milorad Mijatovic, Momo Colakovic, Petar Petrovic, Janko Veselinovic and Shaip Kamberi.
